The Agile Project Management (AgilePM™) course addresses the needs of those working in a project-focused environment who want to be Agile. Based on the proven fundamentals within DSDM® Atern, the course provides the ability to deliver Agile projects in organisations requiring standards, rigor and transparency around project management, while at the same time enabling the fast pace, change and empowerment provided by Agile. With AgilePM Agile projects work better alongside more formalised project management approaches like PRINCE2® and quality processes like ISO9001 and CMMI. This course is especially unique because it teaches how an Agile project delivery framework seamlessly integrates with the Scrum product delivery framework.

In summary the AgilePM™ course will:

  • Explain how to lay the foundations for successful agile projects;
  • Explain how an agile project is managed;
  • Clarify the different management styles needed for successful agile projects (compared to "traditional" projects);
  • Provide integration with PRINCE2®;
  • Seamless integration with Scrum product delivery framework.

  Fact Sheet: Agile Project Management (AgilePM™) Course
Target Audience

The AgilePM™ foundation course is primarily targeted at project managers but can also be beneficial to other people involved in Agile project like:

  • IT people like functional/executive managers, team leaders, architects, analysts, developers, testers and PMO staff;
  • Business people like project sponsors, product owners, business managers, analysts and end-users;
  • Customers, software vendors and other stakeholders.

The AgilePM™ practitioner course is targeted at project managers that are, or will be, responsible for managing a project using an Agile approach.

Participants will benefit most if they have basic knowledge of project management and/or PRINCE2®.

Delivery Format

The AgilePM™ course is delivered in two parts:

  1. Foundation level is delivered as a 3-day public course;
  2. Practitioner level is delivered as a 1-day public course which can be taken the day after the foundation level course.

A unique aspect is that the course itself is run like an Agile project: all course content is captured in a Prioritised Requirements List, delivered in time-boxes and topics are ordered to ensure the participants receive the best value possible. This also reinforces the experience of being in a real Agile projects that is highly interactive, requires discipline and is energising. Past experiences with this Agile course format have proven to be highly successful with participants.

To improve the effectiveness of the training the participants are expected to spent a several hours on self-study prior and (each night) during the course. Instructions will be provided.

Course Content

The foundation AgilePM™ certification lives up to its name by providing the users of the method with the core principles needed to facilitate a successful project, while allowing a degree of scope and agility that not many other methodologies provide. With a clear, concise and detailed perspective on project productivity, the AgilePM™ certification is useful to all candidates and competency levels ranging from highly experienced project managers to those new to the industry.

The practitioner level empowers, encourages and equips you with an in-depth knowledge of not just the certification, but also how to apply and implement these principles into the life of a project manager on a daily basis.

Knowledge Assessment

Both parts of the AgilePM™ course are concluded with an exam:

  1. Foundation exam taken at the end of the third day and pass/fail will be announced immediately after the exam. The exam format is:
    • 60 multiple choice questions
    • 30 marks required to pass (50%)
    • 60 minutes duration
    • Closed-book;
  2. Practitioner exam taken at the end of the fourth day and pass/fail will be announced to the candidate at a later date. The exam format is:
    • Objective-testing with 4 questions and 15 marks available per question
    • 30 marks required to pass out of 60 available (50%)
    • Two hours duration
    • Open-book (restricted to the manual only).

Other BenefitsThe course participants receive the Agile Project Management handbook for free. This handbook is intended to be used as a general reference for Agile Project Management, but specifically as collateral for accredited Agile Project Management training courses.

This course also allows the participant to claim 24 PDU's from PMI for the foundation level course and an additional 8 PDU's for the practitioner level .
